Research for a Stronger America is backed by more than 60 public and private universities from more than 30 states who believe deeply in the power of university research to help this country win against its greatest challenges. American universities are committed to tackling real problems and making new breakthroughs that help keep our country strong, secure, and prosperous. That’s why we’re working to ensure all Americans understand the positive impact this work has on millions of lives.

We know many Americans don’t realize the real impact of university research on issues that matter, like national defense, lifesaving medical treatments, and maintaining America’s lead in developing cutting-edge technologies. There are so many ways that research universities are helping people – and this country – win every single day against major challenges. And it’s a message that needs to be shared.

Without university research, the U.S. wouldn’t have discovered the lifesaving vaccine that eradicated polio, led the world in building the internet, or created laser technology used in everything from surgery to manufacturing. And so much more. Today, that federal funding is at risk. By writing letters to elected leaders asking them to protect this funding, we’re sending them a clear message that their constituents value university research and the lasting impact it has on the lives of all Americans.

This is a broad-based, national effort focused on preserving the invaluable partnership between America’s universities and key federal research agencies like the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. We want Americans everywhere to understand how university research helps this country and its people win against its greatest challenges every day.
